Support resources Transcript Caroline Hall, UAW Trust Aetna Medicare Advantage member Caroline: My name is Caroline Hall. I grew up in Columbiana and moved to Salem after we were married. Robert Hall, UAW Trust Aetna Medicare Advantage member Bob: My name’s Robert Hall — Bob. And I was born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio. Bob: I started working at General Motors in'‘66 and I’ve been very active within the union. I’m still active. Was supposed to be in a meeting today. Bob: In 1999, when she got out of school for the summer, she said, "Bob, I’m not going back to school, I’m retiring." And I said, "If you’re retiring, I'm retiring too." Aetna would come to our UAW retiree meetings and they would have the answers to our questions about any issues. Caroline: It covered all of our doctors and everything that we wanted. Before I had my knee replacement, I got a call from the Aetna nurse case manager call me and ask me if I had any questions about my procedure; if there was anything that I was unfamiliar with and that following surgery, she would follow up on me, but in the meantime, anything came up, she was available and I felt comfortable and I felt protected. We are at the gym at least three days a week. Bob: She says, "You complain about your weight. You talked about going to the gym. I’m getting you a membership at the gym." Caroline: We went to Aetna from the insurance program we had been into because they included SilverSneakers. Bob: Not only was it a proven program, but it was also beneficial financially. The gym has been wonderful to help our health. Caroline: We like to travel. And we have peace of mind because we know that Aetna will cover any emergencies that could happen on one of these trips. Bob: We enjoy the freedom. The freedom you have is worth something. Caroline: We've had the Healthy Home Visits three times, and we've been very happy with them. Either a doctor or a nurse practitioner come to the home. And they don’t take a lot of your time. An hour at most. Bob: They make you feel like they really care about your health. And I think that’s great. Caroline: But another thing, they have prompted me to continue to focus on eating properly. Eating healthy is very important. Bob: I think being healthy gives you independence. You don’t have to depend on other people to take care of you. It’s just a better way of life. We have a very happy life that way. And it’s just great being healthy. Slide 3 - Agenda During this video, I’ll cover: • Your other benefits provided by the Trust • How Medicare Advantage plans work • What you pay with Aetna • Keeping the doctors you know and trust • Extra support programs And • Enrolling in Aetna Slide 4 - Your other benefits provided by the Trust The Trust offers you benefits in addition to the Aetna medical plan option I’ll go over on this video. These include coverage for prescription drugs, dental, hearing and vision. Enrolling in Aetna for your medical coverage does not impact any of these other benefits provided by the Trust. Slide 5 - How Medicare Advantage plans work Let’s start by going over what Medicare Advantage plans are and how they work. Slide 6 - What is Medicare Advantage? Medicare Advantage plans are approved by Medicare and offered by private insurance companies, such as Aetna. Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Part C, plans provide all the benefits you get with Original Medicare Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical). Similar to Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage doesn’t pay for everything. You may have to pay a share of your health care costs through deductibles, flat copays and coinsurance. However, Medicare Advantage plans place a limit on your out-of-pocket costs. This provides you with financial protection in case of a major illness. There is no out-of-pocket protection with Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Medicare Advantage plans also often include helpful care support programs, such as fitness programs, personalized nurse support and more, at no extra cost Slide 7 – Am I eligible? To be eligible for a Medicare Advantage plan, you must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. You must also continue to pay your monthly Medicare Part B premium when enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. And you cannot be enrolled in more than one Medicare Advantage plan. Slide 8 - Easy to use Medicare Advantage plans are also easy to use. When you go to the doctor for an office visit, you’ll only need to show your Medicare Advantage ID card and pay any applicable copay. Your provider will submit the claim directly to the plan.
